Credit Reports

Credit reports contain a gold mine of information about you. They contain your SSN, your current and previous addresses, your telephone number, credit status, where you are employed, etc.. Getting your credit report yearly and learning your credit reporting rights are some of the most important things you can do to protect your privacy.

There are laws protecting your privacy when it comes to credit reports and they regulate who gets access to your credit report. Privacy laws are getting more strict and it is getting harder for an identity thief to get his or her hands on your credit report. Harder but not impossible. You do not want your credit report to end up in the hands of an identity thief as it contains all the information they could ever want or need to steal your identity. If you request your identity report, make sure it is sent to you securely and destroy it once you have finished with it. Do not simply throw it in the garbage. Many identities have been stolen from curb side garbage.
