Get out of Debt Scam

The Scam
Another common scam is the "Get out of Debt" emails. Some may be legitimate offers from loan companies but be warned that others are actually thieves trying to steal your identity and add to your debt. Investigations have revealed that some of the emails circulating asks unsuspecting victims of identity theft to fill out a form with all of their personal and financial information and are being redirected to places as far as China.

The Solution
Prevention is the key to this type of identity theft scam. Never respond to an email or website requesting your personal information unless you are positively sure that the company is legitimate. If you do, you may be handing all the information needed for an identity thief to commit identity theft and steal your identity.

In this type of identity theft scam, the identity thieves cannot get your personal information if you do not to give it to them.
