Free Credit Report Scam

The Scam
Almost every "Free Credit Report" email you will receive is a scam. These identity thieves may be trying to get your social security number (SSN) and some may even bill you for this service at a later date. This kind of identity theft is very common and unsuspecting victims who financially may be having a hard time sometimes make things worse trying to save a few dollars. You have no idea who is sending you these emails so do your research and make sure you are dealing with an authentic entity before you risk giving your personal information to an identity thief.

The Solution
Prevention is the key to this type of identity theft scam. Be aware and do not respond to any emails offering you a free credit report unless you have done your homework with the BBB or the FTC. Do not even request to be removed from their list.

In this type of identity theft scam, the identity thieves cannot get your personal information or money if you do not to give it to them.
