Identity Theft is Too EasyA Sucker is Born Every Minute When it comes to identity theft, even a rookie identity thief will tell you that these are the words they live by. They have many ways of tricking unsuspecting victims out of their personal information but many times it is as easy as asking for it. If someone called you on the telephone and asked you to send them your big screen TV because it is broken and they need to fix it, you would most likely laugh and hang up. Ridiculous isn't it? Unfortunately many people respond to emails and telephone calls from identity thieves who say something is wrong with their account or they need to verify their information. Calling people one after another until you find someone cooperative enough to give you their information sounds too much like hard work. That's why more identity thieves are turning to the Internet as a way to reach millions of potential identity theft victims with little effort. Identity thieves can easily send out 10 million emails every day and with just a few clicks it's far from hard work. "If you build it, they will come." It is very easy nowadays to put up a web page. It costs just pennies and it can contain whatever information you want it to. Eventually, whether your web page is about your favorite rock band or a page offering low interest loans, it will be found and visited. As easily as a teenager can create a page that promotes his favorite band, an identity thief can put up a web page that offers you a low interest loan and includes a handy form for you to fill in with your name, address, employer, SSN, etc.. Right in your Neighborhood Identity theft old school style may involve more work but it is still very much active. Identity thieves can easily get the information they need from your garbage, your mailbox, and many other places right in your neighborhood where your personal and financial information is left unprotected in a semi-public area. They might even come right to your door and boldly ask you if you would like a personalized credit card or if you would be interested in a new cell phone plan. Identity thieves can also easily look over your shoulder while you fill in an insurance form at the doctors office or other business or agency. It's really that simple and easy for people to become victims of identity theft. Statistics show that this type of crime is on the rise and it will continue to do so until enough people and businesses become aware enough about it that they pro-actively takes steps to prevent identity theft from ruining peoples credit and lives.
