Free Gift Scam

The Scam
If you get a phone call or email stating that you have won a free gift and all that stands between you and this wonderful gift is your credit card information, it's most likely an identity theft scam. A free gift is only free if they don't charge you anything. Some identity thieves use this method just to identify you as a live lead with an active phone number or email to trap you in a separate scam at a later date.

The Solution
Prevention is the key to this type of identity theft scam. If you are offered a free gift, make sure it free before you risk giving out your information to an identity thief. Unless you are sure it isn't an identity theft scam, do not even request to be removed from their list.

In this type of identity theft scam, the identity thieves cannot get your personal information or money if you do not to give it to them.
