Help (SSN) Wanted ScamBe warned that identity thieves are publishing fake help wanted ads in newspapers and on job search websites to illicit personal information. Some even blatantly ask for SSN in the actual ads. Remember that anyone can put an ad in a newspaper or create a website. Sending in a resume with your personal work and school history, current address, telephone number and SSN could spell disaster for you and Jackpot for the person trying to steal your identity. The Solution Prevention is the key to this type of identity theft scam. Never respond to a wanted ad unless you can verify the authenticity of the company or agency. Never supply your SSN number until you are given employment. Never include your SSN on your resume as you may be handing all the information needed for an identity thief to commit identity theft and steal your identity.
