Smoke-a-holic, Nicotine Junkie,
Drug Addict?

Smoking is addictive
Many people believe that being a smoke-a-holic is just one of those cute sayings. On the contrary, nicotine addiction is as aggressive and potentially deadly as many other addictions. There are more premature deaths caused by cigarette smoking every year than all of the other addictions combined. There are 3 criteria to qualify a substance as an addiction. Withdrawals, increased usage, and necessity. Cigarette smoking meets all 3 of these criteria.

Smoking causes abnormal behavior
Because cigarettes are so readily available and relatively cheap, we do not fully realize the impact of how addictive this substance is. Given the proper circumstances however, its true effect shows through. Starving prisoners from German concentration camps who received barely enough food to keep themselves alive were known to trade away food for cigarettes. Many financially distraught people can bee observed picking up used cigarette butts froms ashtrays or the sidewalk to get their next dose of nicotine. Even still today many parents starving children in third world countries will trade food for cigarettes. All of these are examples of abnormal behavior caused by cigarette smoking addiction.

Nicotene Kills
Let it be very clear that nicotine is a very addictive drug that can kill you. Remember this when you get the craving for a cigarette. Remember this when you feel the peer pressure to have your first cigarette. Remember this and please don't smoke.
