Get some Support!

Remember that you have to decide to quit for yourself and that you are responsible for only yourself. Getting a quitting buddy may sound fine and you may think that you will help each other through the rough times. You may be right but you may also be wrong. Your slips or complete failure to stop may bring your buddy down with you. Or even worse, they may bring you down! Have you ever heard of an alcoholic having another alcoholic who is still drinking as a sponsor? Sounds silly doesn't it?

Our suggestion would be to get yourself a sponsor. Preferably a smoker who has been smoke free for at least 6 months. Someone you can talk about the cravings with and who actually understands your pain and what you are talking about. Schedule regular meetings with your sponsor and have an agreement that you may telephone them for moral support or advice at any time. They can help by reminding you that it is possible to quit smoking as they are living proof and how good they now feel.
